History Of Valley Forge Casino Resort
On March 31, 2012, Valley Forge Casino Resort became the eleventh?casino to open and operate in Pennsylvania. The casino was built for $130 million on top of the former Valley Forge Convention Center’s exhibition floor. For those interested in the site’s history, the convention center itself was built in 1985 by J. Leon Altemose.
The casino opened later than expected due to opposition from Parx Casino. Parx Casino claimed that Valley Forge did not meet the requirements for a resort license. However, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ultimately ruled in favor of Valley Forge Casino Resort.
Although it was the eleventh casino to open in Pennsylvania, it was the first to receive a Category 3 license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. This came with specific regulations in terms of the number of slots and table games available and who could access the floor of the casino. Anyone who wished to gamble at the casino needed to spend $10 elsewhere in the resort first or purchase a membership.
In October 2017, new legislation removed the requirement that customers must spend $10 before accessing the casino floor.
